Gems for the Soul

I recently ran the Indy 500 Mini Marathon with my great friend/mentor/employer/Soul Sister Tammy Strickler. She is a brave soul who really stuck with me during the whole race. So many thoughts go through my mind when I am running. I was worried about how I would handle 13.1 miles, considering I barely trained. Tammy told me, "It is all in your mind. Your body can do anything if your mind thinks it can."
My mind needs pretty, meaningful things to look at no matter what I am doing, so I wore my wedding rings, my beautiful prasiolite and diamond ring, and the most beautiful blue and white friendship bracelet my son Dane made for me at the Greek Fest last year. I thought if I ever felt like stopping during the race I could look at these special pieces and have renewed energy. It worked! Tammy was right. Your body can do what your mind believes it can. We made it through, and I only had to stop and look at my gems a couple times. As you can see, I recieved something pretty to wear around my neck as I limped around the rest of the day. Hey, whatever works!
